problem when installing Mandrake 10.1 form hard disk

Hello,

I tried to install Mandrake 10.1 (I downloaded) form my hard disk and then I got some problems.

Here is my system:

1st disk : master

C: NFTS - primary - 15.8 GB - I installed WinXP
D et E - Cdroom
Linux - Ext3 - primary - 6.2 GB - I created it with Partition Magic
Linux swap - primary - 499.1 MB
F: - NTFS- logical- Where Mandrake is copied

2e disk : slave

H: -NFTS- logical- 30 GB - datas
I : -NFTS -logical- 30 GB - datas

The CPU is PIII - 800 MHz with 864 MB of RAM

-----
I copied the 3 cds in F:\Mandrake\CD1 (then Cd2 and Cd3) and I created the boot diskette with hd_grub.img and changed the content of menu.lst to :
--------
timeout 0
default 0

title Mandrake Install

root (hd0,3)
kernel /Mandrake/Cd1/isolinux/alt0/vmlinuz ramdisk_size=128000 root=/dev/ram3 acpi=ht vga=788 automatic=method:disk,partition=hda4,directory=/Mandrake/Cd1
initrd /Mandrake/Cd1/isolinux/alt0/all.rdz
---------------
then I rebooted my computer with the diskette inserted and I got this errot message:

Error 18 : Selected cylinder exceeds maximum supported by BIOS
Press any key to continue.....

Now I don't know what to do, I checked my Bios, it's Ok.

Can anyone help me, please.

Thanks alots.

When I created my boot disk, I created it using the cdrom.img file., not the grub.img file like you did That is what it says to do in the README file on the Mandrake CD1 installation CD so maybe you should try that. Also, if I may ask, why did you copy the CD's onto your hard drive? Why not just do it the manual way and pop them in-and-out of the CD-ROM drive when you're installing?

As for partitioning, I've never done it with partition magic, but Mandrake already has a partitioning tool during the installation so you can do it all within Mandrake. So perhaps you can just format those Linux partitions and leave them blank and let the Mandrake installation wizard do the partitions for you. Don't worry because you can customize the partitions yourself within the installation wizard!

Hope this helps.
