Hi Everyone,
I got hold of the Mandriva 2008 One CD and it seemed to work fine--at least I was able to boot into the KDE desktop and play songs and videos. So I thought that the 2008 Free DVD would also work. But when I try to install it, I get a screen that asks me to choose the language and then my display disappears for an instant, only to reappear as a mixture of colors.
I waited long enough, thinking it was a temporary problem, but the installation did not proceed further.
I checked the system requirements for the One CD version, and it appears to me that my computer does meet the requirements.
Can anyone shed light on this? I am providing a copy of the system requirements alongside my PC configuration if needed.

MY SYSTEM: Intel Pentium 3, 1137 MHz. Motherboard I810E2 chipset.
RAM
REQUIREMENT:256 MB minimum, 512 MB recommended
MY SYSTEM: 512 MB SDRAM(Maximum that my motherboard will support).
VIDEO CARD
REQUIREMENT:NVIDIA, ATI, Intel© i8xx and i9xx, SIS, Matrox, VIA. 3D desktop features requires NVIDIA GeForce or later, ATI Radeon 7000 or later, or Intel i810 or later.
MY SYSTEM: On board i810 graphics.
SOUND CARD
REQUIREMENT:# Any Sound Blaster-compatible card and AC97™ please note that Creative Labs X-Fi cards are not currently supported
MY SYSTEM: Onboard Sound Card. Windows used to report it as AC97.


This is all I can think of now. There are also notes on SATA and CD Drive. I have proper DVD Drives, but I will find out about the HDD.

Mandriva 2007 and 2006 run excellent on my box; I do not use 3D desktop effects.

Try installing Mandriva 2008 free using the text mode install instead of the graphical and see if the install completes. You could always install Mandriva One and add all the other stuff that you get with the 2008 free dvd after.

Hi Tank Jr, do and md5sum check on the iso, if you have it.

The md5sum is available from the site you downloaded from, and md5sum program is available for windows and linux, just google it to find out how to get and use it.

If you get an error,

Your system may not have downloaded the entire iso.

Secondly, you may have a bad burn to disk (CD). (check the md5sum first)

ps. I have 2007.1 (spring) loaded on my other(spare) system, a duron 900MHz, 256 sdram and a 4meg intel graphics card. 3 HD's, cdrw and cdrom. No problems with the install. Cheers, Glenn
