Question Problem Shutting Down

Ok, first of all, I am a Noob, so if this is a noob question I'm sorry. I just switched to Mandrake Linux 10.1 from Windows XP, and I'm used to the features of windows.

Well, I turn on the computer and use it. Then when I'm done, I shut it down and the progress bar goes to the end and hangs. I can hear my hard drives shut off, but it just hangs there. So I push the power button, and find out I have to push and hold the power button to make it turn off.
So... I try it again but this time press "Esc" to see the shutdown messages, and it ends with the message "Power down". I assume that means to turn it off.

But is there a way to make it automatically turn itself off like windows?

What processor do you have.

I have experienced a similar problem with an AMD k-6 2 processor, with the exception that I got a long code message about a bad EIP value

This worked for me

In Configure My Computer, Boot, Boot Loader, check the box "Enable ACPI"

Hi,
If you have used lilo as a bootloader, go to system/configuration/bootloader and Enable ACPI
If you are using grub then maybe someone else can help you..
GoodLuck,
jolphil

Edit Sorry I did not see the previous post..
