PowerPack 2010.2 and wireless

It does not detect the eth1 (Wi-Fi) card, and no option to use linux driver, only ndiswrapper which I don't like and don't know where it is located?

So far, I can see your wirless card does not show up. Run the command '/sbin/lspci' and post the results.

From that, we'll see if the system is seeing your card. Right now, I can tell there appears to be no driver loaded ( or the wrong driver ).

lspci will will show what hardware you have. From there we'll determine what driver you need. Then we'll see if Mandy supplies it. If it is not on your system, you can look in the repos. Failing that, we'll look for the source, and you compile it. Then you use the modprobe command to load it.

This is your wireless card.

It appears it should use the iwlwifi driver. The firmware needed is in the package "iwl2030-firmware".

I don't know if your version of Mandriva has packages for this card, and its firmware or not. Can you look in MCC, both for Installed and Not installed packages, and see if they are there, if listed and not there, install them.

If you can not find them, upgrading to a later version may be the fastest way of solving your problems.

I initially installed 2011 powerpack but didn't like the KDE theme and it has no Gnome this is why I downgraded to 2010.2,
I also remember that under 2011 PowerPack it did not recognize the wifi ..?!

Thanks

I would suggest if you want Gnome, pick an up to date distro that has it. Mint for example.

Did you run the commands I gave you on 2011 when you had it installed? The fact that it didn't seem to work doesn't mean the driver was not loaded.

mandrivaFan 09-24-2012 12:01 PM

It has the following packages iwlwifi-number-ucode .
I installed all of them and here is the out put of ifconfig -a , iwconfig is the same :

I like Mandriva, is PowerPack 2011 is the newest version of Mandriva ??

camorri 09-24-2012 01:11 PM

Installing the packages does not load the module. You will, as root, have to run 'modprobe iwlwifi' in a konsole. If you get any messages back, post them. If you don't get messages back, the module loaded. Then you can try 'ifconfig wlan0 up'; that is assuming your system names the wireless card wlan0. If that is not the correct name, run 'ifconfig' and it will list all configure adapters. Find the correct name, and try 'ifconfig correctname up'. You will still have to configure wireless things like essid, encryption keys etc.

Mandriva 2011 appears to be the latest release. You might want to take a look at Magia. It is a fork from Mandriva, and has had stable 2 releases since 2011 came out. Its developers once worked for Mandrake, and Mandriva. It looks and feels like Mandriva. It has MCC with all the nice tools Mandriva has.
