Plugger Trouble

I finally got "plugger" to compile in Mandriva 2005LE and installed it in Opera. Opera sees it fine. It checks out on all the known check-points, linspire, apple trailers and the plugger test site. But it won't work on the "internets", just the test sites. I've been looking around and thinking I may not have mplayer and plugger in the same path. I know nothing about paths. Plugger is installed in /usr/local and mplayer is by default in /etc. It doesn't play anywhere except the test sites. No errors. Appreciate some help.
$ echo $PATH
/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin/:/usr/games:/home/ray/bin
$ -a mplayer
bash: -a: command not found
Chnged to mozplugger and it somewhat better, still no asx-asf with Opera.
