Unhappy please tell me more about the urpmi


i began to use mandirva 2006 just a few days ago, i found it's very hard to install a software . so i searched web and found urpmi.i followed the instruciton of easyurpmi . it works well ,but it seems that it can't get the latest version of a software. for example , when i use urpmi **** to install a software , like firefox, it's still version 1.06 .did i do something wrong ?
ps: my english is poor ,hope you can understand me

As long as you have set up an updates source for urpmi, you should be good to go. Even though the package is labeled as version 1.06, if it is from the updates source, it has been back patched with all the current security fixes. AFAIK, the current version for 2006.0 is mozilla-firefox-1.0.6-16.5.20060mdk.i586.

No, you did it right.

That version number is the mandriva number, and as far as I'm aware it is version 1.5 of firefox with mandriva bookmarks and links..

This is the easiest way to install firefox. http://autopackage.org/
I installed 1.5.0.4 using it. http://www.wildgardenseed.com/Taj/autopackage/

This lists several programs using autopackage. http://autopackage.org/packages/
