playlist support for mp3 players

I just reinstalled Mandriva 2008. I was just wondering if their is any programs that will support a sandisk mp3 player. I use Amorok right now for most of my music but it won't let me create playlists.

A while back several users were editing some files to create a working playlist. That seemed to be a major hassel so I haven't tried it. Are their any programs that will support a sandisk m250 player right out of the box?

I will continue to winblows till I can find a good linux program.

I recently bought sandisk sansa and it runs ok in Mdv 2008.

1) without playlist...insert usb...click to open...Hal mounts it /media/disk and you then use Konqueror to copy and move mp3 files around.

BTW sansa allows other formats but wav files lose quality when my display drops off after 5 seconds....so I only load mp3 files

2) to get playlist support you need to configure the device in amarok as follows
a) make sure you have sound working ok in KDE control center....I use alsa
b) open amarok and in Settings/config amarok/engine/ output plugin choose alsa click apply

response will come back with alsa device configs showing for me...default for both mono and stereo....4 ch showing as plug:surround40:0 6 ch showing as plug:surround51:0

c) settings/config ama/media devices....I remove any currently showing
then click on add button.

Now the important bits....in new window for config of new device
select plugin....pulldown generic audio player

name of device...your choice...eg mp3player

mount point.../media/disk

note if you have more than one device....and you change order when inserting usb devices ...it may not always be /media/disk....for example I have usb memory stick...but I cheat and never mount it same time.

click ok and your screen should read

yourname (details) Generic audio player....config icon and remove button

click ok to leave this conf pulldown

d) click on left hand menu...devices....look above you should see connect button is dark disconnect is greyed out and that you have generic audio device with culled text

only if this is a match can I proceed....click on connect button

response for me....is music folder and record folder.....btw my sansa can record voice and FM radio

e) amorok then tells you how to use that sansa playlist using the mouse.

lets pretend you have one track only on the player so drag it into the right hand pane.

double click the item in rh pane to play it

f) above LH tab is another cog icon...I uncheck all but collection playlist and devices as I do not use the web for streaming mp3....I prefer my web browser and cache.

g) click on playlist tab click on add icon above and name new playlist eg 1

clicking on item in rH pane so its highlighted...drag it to playlist named 1 and you are done.....

h) clicking back in devices....if you have an artist under a called A you can add all of A's works to playlist on rh pane

ok forgot to mention that back in config/collection

tick each folder or sub-folder that you want amarok to search for playlists and playable files eg /media or /mnt

2) and the help pull down as a link to
