PITA desktop icons (xawtv)

Can anyone tell me how to stop the "dynamic_dev_video0_dynamic.desktop" icons from being recreated every time I reboot. They persist ever since I installed xawtv.

Right click on the desktop and click properties.

Look for the Device Icons entry and disable this.

There is no "Properties", only ...

Open Terminal
Create Folder
Create Launcher
Create Document >
-------
Cleanup by Name
Keep Aligned
--------
Paste Files (greyed out)
-------
Use Default Background
Change Desktop Background

There is a Desktop Preferences in the Gnome Control Center but it claims it's not associated with any action.

Oops I thought you were running KDE.

It's handled similiarly in Gnome, somewhere in the control panel.

It would be if the Desktop Preferences worked.

Do they work even temporarily?

Could this be a rights issue on a hidden folder?
