Pentium M throttling on battery

Hi, I just installed Mandrake 2008 one free on my Dell Inspiron 8600, replacing Ubuntu, and dual booting with WinXP. I quickly noticed that the battery life reported was less than 5 hours, as opposed to 8.5 hours on Windows, and about 8 hours on Ubuntu. I immediatly started suspecting that my CPU has not been throttled to the battery mode, upon checking, it does seem like the processor still operates at 1.6GHz instead of the normal ~600Mhz that it does in Windows and Ubuntu. I looked at the power options, and also the hardware options under "Configure Your Computer" and was not able to find any setting on CPU throttling under battery power.

How do I set up this feature?

Thanks,

Try running the laptop kernel and also try installing and running (k)powersave, see if that helps.
