Hello:
I've tried several linux distros and Mandriva is for the time beeing the one
that gave me less headackes in configuring the system. For instance, I had
severe problems with my ATI Radeon X600 in Fedora or SUSE, but here it runs
smoothly.
Nevertheless, there is a problem that happens with all the distros I tried,
even with Mandriva 2006: they don't recognize the PATA HDD that is associated
with VIA Raid controller 6410. Linux just doesn't see it. On the contrary, XP
lists the HDD, so I'm sure it is running OK.
This is pretty annoing, because I would like to install XP and Mandriva in 2
different drives.
I tried already to switch off the Raid controller in the BIOS, but it is even
worse, because this time both XP and Mandriva don't recognize the hard drive.
Any help on this issue is greatly appreciated.
System:
Pentium 4 3.4 GHz
MSI 915P Combo FR (Intel 915P and ICH6)
Via Raid Controller 6410
SATA HDD 160 GB Samsung
PATA HDD 120 GB Samsung
512 MB DDR2
