I have a Plustek Optic pro Scanner and although it seems to be supported I cannot get it to work.I have read that Parallel port scanners are not suported but this seems to
conflict with the hardware setup software.

I have a Mustek 600 CP scanner which Mandrake supports but doesn't detect. The trick there was to edit the /etc/sane.d/dll.conf file and uncomment mustek_pp. It may be that the line for your scanner (plustek_pp) which doesn't even appear in my dll.conf although is definately there. You will also need to edit plustek_pp.conf, comment out the examples and make sure a section

[direct]
device 0x378

or

[direct]
device parport0

or

[kernel]
device /dev/lp0

exists. I don't know which ones work and what difference the different access mechanisms have.
