Only sound in some programs
I installed MDK 10 community, everything went fine, but just as in the second beta, I have no sound. That is to say, I have no "system sounds" (eg KDE startup tune etc), no sound in Mplayer or Xine. The strange thing is, I do have good sound in Frozen Bubble and Totem. I also installed Unreal Tournament 2004 demo, which also gives me nice sound (probably because it's designed for nVidia cards, like I have).
I have onboard nVidia nforce2 sound, so the default driver is sndintl-8 (can't remember exact name, sorry). I tried other drivers like nvaudio, but this doesn't work either.
Open Mandrake Control Center
Select Hardware
Select Hardware again
Select your sound card
Click the Run Config Tool Button
If more than one driver is available for your sound card, try an alternate driver
Click OK
Open the KDE Control Center
Select Sound [clikc the '+' at the left], then click Sound System - be sure Enable Sound System has a Check Mark.
Select Look and Feel [click the '+' at the left], then click System Notifications, click the Event Source drop down bar and select System Notifications.
For each option you wish to have a sound, be sure the Play a Sound check box has a check mark, and that there is a sound file in the dialog to the right.

Thanks for the reply. I already tried alternate drivers. I haven't looked at the other two suggestions, though, especially the to see whether "Enable Sound System has a Check Mark". So it could just be a KDE issue then?
Just out of curiosity, how come Frozen Bubble has sound, but not Tux Racer? I suppose they deal differently with the sound driver.
Perhaps there's something wrong with my modules.conf.
