Online Update fails

After giving permission to connect to a mirror and download the latest updates, I get the following error message:

"A fatel error occurred: It's impossible to retrieve the list of new packages from the media 'update_source.' Either this update media is misconfigured, and in this case you should use the Software Media Manager to remove it and re-add it in order to reconfigure it, either it is currently unreachable and you should retry later..."

I find the message vague. What exactly am I supposed to remove with the "Software Media Manager" and what is the "Software Media Manager?"

I know how to go to the "Software Management" feature of the "Mandrakelinux Control Center." And I can choose "Select from where software is downloaded from when updating the system." And when I do that it says it's in the "Media Manager."

My update source is:
ftp://carroll.cac.psu.edu/pub/linux/...5/main_updates

I believe this was configured when I used Easy urpmi to setup my repositories - along with plf-free and nonfree, contrib, main, and jpackage.

When I use the install feature, there is a category called "updates" and it is populated with choices. Is this the same stuff I'd get from online update?

Here is the procedure I used to setup Online Updates

1. Go to Start->System->Configuration->Packaging->Software Media Manager
2. Added a online update source for FTP (Similar to the one you used)
3. Go to Start->System->Configuration->Packaging->Mandrakelinux Update
All the update packages appeared and I installed all that I felt nessecary

I am using 10.1 and it worked fine.
Hope this Helps.

OK, I see what I misunderstood. The 'update_source' path or hdlist was not correct. I removed the item 'update_source' from the list of media in the software manager and then added back again. When adding it, a list of correct repositories is provided to choose from.

The list of packages under the updates entry created by Easy urpmi is not the same as what appears under 'update_source.'
