Odd problem with Eth0, any ideas?

I am running MDK 10.1 in a dual-boot system with Win XP Pro. It works fine in every regard except one . . . the ethernet connection works fine for a while and then stops, then starts up again and stops, etc.

I am running either Shorewall or Guarddog as firewalls.

Is it possible that there is a setting somewhere which needs to be changed or is this a coomon problem with MDK?

Andrew. (in South Korea).

On a separate console (e.g. tty2) you can run "tail -f /var/log/messages". Then when your connection goes down just press <ctl><alt>f2 and you may get useful information.

Sorry I can't be more specific.
Please let us know what you find out.

Are you running shorewall or guardog? You might need to sort this out as having 2 firewalls active on the same machine can cause problems.

Nope, the problem seems to be common to both firewalls . . . aasuming that it IS a firewall problem, of course . ..
