NVidia driver problem with screen resolution

Hi Guys

My screen was running at 1600x1200. Working great using the generic nvidia driver. I then re-started my box, and installed the nvidia drivers. I then started X server, and configured the XF86Config-4 file, and restarted X, and the resultion was appearing to run at 1600x1200, but the screen is scrollable. If I open a screen, it opens up larger than what the screen can display. I then have to scroll with my mouse to where i want to go. Only if I drop the screen resolution to 1200x960, the whole screen fits is.

Can anybody shed some light on how to fix this problem? I'm running Mandrake 9.2 download edition

:Pengy:
Thanx a stack.

not sure if this will help, but...

This has happened to me before, but usually after I've had to exit an opengl 3d game due to a crash and I get back to my desktop and its scrollable but just not right. In the past, I've been able to either log out of my kde session and log back in and be fine, or worst case just reboot and everything rights itself.

Hope that its that easy for you, but you may have already tried.

What kind of nvidia card are you working with? What kernel version and driver version?

Hi Repeater75. Even if I restart the box, it still happens when I start X. I think the kernel is 2.4.? Dunno the last digit. The one that comes std with mandrake 9.2 My screen card is a Nvidia Geforce 4 MX. Its is very frustrating working on a 21inch screen at 1200x960 screen resolution. I don't know the driver version unfortunatley, but I downloaded the latest version, and will try it at home tonight.

I made backups of the XF86Config-4 file, so I'll play around with it a bit more tonight!

Thanx and cheers from South Africa!!:Pengy:

I've got the same problems with my Toshiba SP 6100 notebook.

If I use the NVIDIA driver (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6629) on my Mandrake 10.1 laptop, the X screen is 1600x1200 pixels, but I have to scroll back and forth to see it all. This is not the case with the generic NV driver which comes with Mandrake.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

Vorik.
