the only solution i can suggest you is to remove the card, boot in linux recompile the kernel with the patch and try to re-insert the card.
I'm been able to install suse 9.3 and boot in init 3 without trouble
but the pc hang/freeze when starting X, but i did an install without some package and i can't patch/recompile the kernel with this installation.

When i will have time i will try to remove the card and re-install mandrake, for now i use win xp (i use this pc only for sat tv)

while waiting for reply I did exzactly that and got the system running without card, deactivated harddrake2 service and system is fine.
some experimenting has led to the following:
any attempt to load either of the following modules with TV card attached causes system freeze
dvb card 0x71 i2c_hw=1
bt878
I have managed to apply the patch mentioned earlier, but it didn't have any noticable affect.
however that was on previous install and before I reapply it I would like to confirm that it was doing something as I donīt like to patch
if this thread is dead at the moment or this is starting to get OT, let me know and i will start a new post on the specific issue

I don't think that the thread is dead, just i think that there are few people with a tv card more few with sat card and less that use linux, even more less that know this website ^_^

I suppose that in 10 years maybe should be as easy as in windows to install those f°°°°°g cards and have them working as supposed
without compiling recompiling install-reinstall :-(

which version of knoppix did you use"This issue seems to have nothing to do with Mandriva at all. I just tried the latest version of Knoppix which has the same problem. I guess that the Twinhan VisionPlus DVB-T card is causing the problem."

I installd Mandriva 2006 beta it does not boot up at all and I have tride knoppix 3.3 live CDhich does not boot up, says there is some thing rong with the kernal. The funny thing I have is that I have a TV
card which Is a hupplarge nova-T

I still don't have 2006 to test.
My card is a pinnacle pctv sat ci but should be twinhan, the solution seems to be, removing the card install linux, patch the kernel reinstall the card. But didn't try yet.
Suse 9.3 hang the same by the way, so yes i'm sure isn't a specific issue with mandriva. :-(
