No sound and no internet! SoundBlaster Audigy/Realtek RTL8169/8110 Family Gigab

Onto my other question. For some reason its not connecting me to the internet. I have a Realtek RTL8169/8110 Family Gigab ethernet card.

FC4 and SuSE both let me use my internet connection. When i was installing I kept the default HIGH security, i could have also chosen normal, is this why i'm not bieng allowed to connect to the internet?

Any ideas on how I can get online? Also in the summary it saw my ethernet card and it also saw my Sound Card, which is a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS (WDM) from Creative Labs, but for some reason my sound isn't working. Also I check the creative labs website: and for some reason it doesn';t have mine listed unless i'm not looking at the right thing..
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc...ve_Labs#matrix
I see a SB pro 2 ZS platium pro, but mines not a platium pro. Under windows it shows a (WDM) next to it, i don't know what that means.

Anyone know how i can get my sound also online? THank you very much! I'm running KDE windows manager at the moment I am a noob, sorry!

Hi, I have just put in a new motherboard with a on board ethenet adapter that is the same as yours, but as of yet i have not been able to get it to work and am having to use my old PCI card from befoer. Were did you find the drivers for them and install them?

Thanks.

Hey mr. coffee when it comes to linux never pay attention to WDM. That is a Windows only thing. It stands for Windows Driver Model (or Module, seen it called both but model is it original meaning). It is just Microsoft's way to try to standardize driver implementations and also make it harder for driver development in the open source community. It helps lock up hardware profiles and capabilites from developers other then Windows developers. At one time before WDM the hardware makers were the ones deciding whether or not to release hardware specs and sometimes they could be reversed from Windows. Now Billy Gates has made it so reversing specs isn't nearly as easy due to WDM. Thus making it harder for his direct competition such as Linux wich relies on the community to create new hardare drivers / modules to due so in a far from reasonable fashion. Couple this to WDM having non disclosure agreements which make the manufacturer keep their specs closed as well. Some of these manufacturers were starting to embrace the open source community, but if they want to sell hardware in the largest segment of the OS market they are limited to what they can do.

Sorry for the WDM explanation and then tyrate but GATES is the DEVIL INCARNATE. Why did his antitrust go away, cause BUSH was reminded that Windows makes the military go round now as opposed to Unix. This is thanks to Gates cramming Windows and its IDE's to high schools and colleges offering it cheaper then System V, convincing them it was easier as well. This leads the future members of miltary developments to not know the wonders and stability UNix and variants offer. They and up going with what they know, WINBLOWS.

hah thanks for the explanation jchance. I have been using windows for years! and i can't stand it when i have to boot into it now. It looks so gross and whorish! I love linux now! and Richie, I didn't have to download any drivers. Mandriva 2006 ppowerpack found everything for me and installed! i just had to reboot the system and it worked!
