No Pcm Sound Out
I am using mdk 10.1 official. My sound card- Turtle Beach Santa Cruz - is properly detected, mixer works. But I can get no sound out of card - wav files, etc. However, input to line in, mike do generate sound and level can be controlled from mixer. I am a ham and use digital software. The decoding from sound card works ok but programs will not generate sound. The system sounds also will not play. This hardware did work with 10.1 community but not with fresh install of the official dvd.

i think you may find that it is "mute" by default.
try doing this:
cat /dev/random > /dev/dsp
you will get a load of white noise if all is well.

OK I ren cat /dev/random > /dev/dsp. nothing
alsamixer shows unmuted.
output of chkconfig --list alsa alsa 0 ff 1 ff 2 n 3 n 4 n 5 n 6 ff
urpmi show everything installed.
GStreamer Prefrences shows oss as preferred slink and test button plays a sound. No selection for alsa there. hmm. ??

further: I removed nvidia from XFconf file, used vesa. Now sound ok. Moved sound card to different slot (was not next to agp slot, tho) now sound works as root, just not user. Probably some group setting altho I can't see how to add user to sound group, can't even find group setting for sound.

It probably is a permissions problem, try running some program that uses sound from a console and look at which sound device it is trying to use (sometimes it is not /dev/pcm or /dev/dsp but /dev/pcm312312412312412412 or whatever) then you can run chmod +rwx /dev/pcm*.
Hope this helps
