No more than 75 Hz with Intel 865 VGA
Hi everibody.
I have Linux Mandrake 10.0 (2.6.3-7mdk-p3-smp-64GB) running with Intel D865GBF M/B, VGA embedded; monitor is Philips 107x2. I can set it up at 1024x768, 85 Hz, on Windows XP, resulting in a smooth display. On Linux I only can set 1024x768, 75 Hz, which results in an annoying flicker, though I could set it at 800x600, 85 Hz. Intel has no support for Mandrake (it has for RedHat). I read through these forums and it seems to me I could make some changes in the X config files but I don't want modify anything without good info. I wouldn't like to reinstall Linux as I had to --I'm new on Linux and breaking and fixing things is a hard way to learn :) Can somebody help me? Thank you all. Regards, Salva. |
Change the graphics adaptor to i810. It should work with no problem. MDK 10 implements X.org 6.7 instead of Xfree 86. Hence solutions by intel may not work.

Also the maximum refresh rates reported by the X installers is directly related to the screen modelines.
Translation: You may need to choose another monitor type while running XFDrake with the DM service killed, while logged in as root. e.g. log in as root on a text console [ALT][CTRL][F1] then service dm stop and run XFDrake XFDrake Choose a different monitor and TEST your settings. |
