No hotplug =/

Hello!

I have just detected that my Mandriva 2006 PP install didnt install hotplug, this is weird because USB memories etc are detected automatically...

However I want to install my midiboard and it's drivers require hotplug, should I install it or does Mandriva has some other system?

Thanks

The detecting of USB thumb drives is because of a feature in the 2.6.x kernel called "automount" not because of "hotplug." Hotplug can be installed if Mandriva dosen't already have it installed. Its a module, so you'll have to make sure that your kernel is configured to allow loading of new modules after compilation of the kernel.

Totally normal, Mandriva, the same as Suse, Fedora etc., have dropped the hotplug script in exchange for udev and hal. I thought it was going to be a big fiasco with my ipod when I started using 2006. Not so,
seems to work the same on the "surface", I simply added a mount point in fstab. Here is some good reading regarding hal and udev and the reasoning behind the switch. http://linux.sys-con.com/read/139426_1.htm
