no background in access manager & not shutting down

Hi,
I have a problem. But the real problem is that I don't know when it happened for the first time, so I don't understand what caused it .
When I turn on the computer I see something like this:

http://www.spitalia.altervista.org/i...sito/logIN.gif

Now, there should be a background but as you can see...
Anyway there's bigger problem.
When I try to shut down it It shows something like this (I'm not sure but I dont want to shutdown just to see it):

http://www.spitalia.altervista.org/i...o/ShutDown.gif

And the computer doesn't turn off itself!!

I have MANDRIVA 2006, an ATI Radeon 9200 (with the latest drivers for linux downloaded from the internet to make OpenGL work).

I created myself the bootloader theme (with -type of boot: without messages and -show theme in the console checked) (even if he did strange things such as changing the theme not the first time I rebooted but when he wanted to... )

I also changed the configuration of the access manager and , as you can imagine, set a background. The background was shown the first times ,but I didn't succed in making him show the icons of the users.
Now what I see is in the above link.

If you want any other more detailed informations please tell me (don't be shy )

PS: I also changed style, decorations and color set but I think it doesn't matter. Other things that I think can influence the correct shutting down are the modem and the local network.
Please tell me everything you can.

Thanks to you all.

Both of your pictures are redirected to http://images.altervista.org/images/void.gif so you should describe what you see at login and shutdown.

Try to copy the address (with right-click) and paste it in the address bar, it worked for me. Anyway the images are made by me (not too well..), they're just similar to what I see.

From what I know it could be an Xorg related problem. Anyway if you haven't done yet update your system. 2006 has quite a lot serious bugs which are fixed by now.

Thank you, I'll try to update.
Anyway, last time it shut down (and that time it gave me an error message at the beginning of the session that I can't remember but that should be about the program that caused the problem... I Thik).

After the update I'll tell you something

thank again
