NIC receiving error " disabling IRQ 23"

I am using Mandrake 10.1 Community and when I try configuring my NIC through the MCC, it pops up "disabling IRQ 23" and that's it, when it says it's finished configuring it never works. Oddly enough, on a completely different hard drive I am trying to install Gentoo 2004.3 and when trying to configure the same NIC, it says " disabling IRQ 23, nobody cares" . I am using an Intel Pro 100 Management NIC. I am about to believe my omputer is haunted !..Please Help !

Out of curiosity what motherboard are you using?

I finished setting up an Intel Server MB with both 100baseT and Gigabit Ethernet Integrated NICs of that type and Mandrake 10.1 had no problems as long as ACPI was enabled... which it is not by default!

I am using an Intel 850EMV2 , I tried all the listed intel drivers and none worked on it. But I will disable ACPI and see if it helps.

The 850EMV works GREAT under Linux Mandrake 10.0 and 10.1

I've used that board quite a bit with Mandrake.

You want ACPI enabled, not disabled.

Make sure you do not have the acpi=ht entry in the /etc/lilo.conf arguements.

Also use the uniprocessor kernel not the SMP one if you have an HT processor.

Also all the thermal monitors and fan sensors are fully supported, as is onboard sound, etc.

On the 850EMV's I end up with no unconfigured hardware.

Thanks

I enabled ACPI and it worked, both on Mandrake an on Gentoo. Thanks alot.

Excellent.

This forum needs a "problem solved" flag, which makes the threads easier to find for others having similiar problems.
