Newbie Printer Setup Help Request

I am trying to setup a Mandrake 10.1 Official machine to print to a printer which is on our work network. It isn't shared from machine, but sits on the lan. My IT department supports only windows machines so I am on my own on this. The problem is, that I am not even sure what information I need from them to do this. Can anyone provide some beginner level tips/instructions on what I need to do?

You'll need to know how the printer is attached to the network. (Jet Direct Card?). You'll need the IP address of the printers interface.
You'll need the make and model of the printer to set up your drivers in CUPS or whatever printing system you're using.
Do you have any other printers set up now?

No other printers set up on linux machines, just Windows machines.... According to IT the printer uses a generic network card to connect to the network.

Ok, first things first.
1) Do your network admins give you the IP address?
2) Can you ping the IP address?
3) What is the make and model of printer? (Be specific, please)
4) Do you have CUPS installed on your linux box?
