newbie ./configure problems....

Hi, i've got mandriva working on my computer and am hastily adding new bits and pieces to it but i'm getting stuck on the installations.... as far as i can gather from the howto's i need to type :

./configure - which makes a file of requiremtns of the system etc.....

make - which compiles

then.....

make install (under root) - which installs the binaries......

but i hit a hurdle in the first command...... after scrolling though lines its halts with....

checking if Qt needs -ljpeg... no
checking for rpath... yes
checking for KDE... configure: error:
in the prefix, you've chosen, are no KDE headers installed. This will fail.
So, check this please and use another prefix!

from a few forums, apparently this means i need to install the kde development package..... but i have it already installed...... i'm puzzled as to what else it requires....

You need to install the kdelibs and kdebase development packages.

I've been through the mandrake package manager which tells me there are no packages of the sort....?

i have the 2005 LE version , will it have it on it?

i seem to recall a way of getting hold of the full list from a website and then linux will download it as appropriate for you.... does anyone know how to set this up and what ftp/http site to use?

The development libraries you need are called libkdecore4-devel and libkdebase4-devel.

Use the instructions at easyurpmi and setup more rpm repositories for your version of Mandriva, then run the command above. make sure you configure, the main, contrib and plf repositories. I am not sure why those packages are not availabe on your installation media.

BTW you don't need to compile that - just install it from the package manager, it'll have been in one of the repositories you've just setup. This should be your first stop for getting software, not recompiling source.
