Newb Question: How to get AWE64 to work on Mandrake 9.2

I am a linux newb and I need help trying to get my soundcard to work. I have an AWE64 value card (ISA) and it doesn't get detected by Mandrake Linux 9.2.

I've tried running HardDrake, it doesn't even detect it.

Being a newb, point me out to where I should go next, generic help's good too.

I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

in terminal, as root, type...........

Code:

sndconfig
hit enter

it will appear to hang & do nothing, but that's ok. it's searching for sound devices. when it's done, it will show you what it found & ask you if it's correct. if so, accept it. it will then set up the sound & give you a chance to test sound. when it's all done, use kicker->multimedia->sound & run aumix to set volume levels. save the settings. you can also go to the same menu & use kmix to make KDE specific volume adjustment, but you need to use aumix for the settings to stick after reboot or shutdown.

thank you for the response. I'll write it down and try it at the computer I have linux installed on. I'll follow up with this if i'm successful or if there's further problems.
