New nVidia 1.0-7167 Drivers - My Experience
You may have read that nVidia has released version 1.0-7167 of their drivers, an up-issue from the 1.0-6629 drivers. I went to their website, got the file, and followed the install instructions, to install onto my MDK 10.1 CE. Everything went perfectly - no issues and it came right up and ran nicely.
I did all this because I was told that the drivers were faster (not that 6629 was slow, but hey, more speed is good!). The only measure I have of speed is glxgears, and I have to report that 7167 was actually *slower* than 6629 - I was getting 3700 fps with 6629 - it dropped to 3400 with 7167! So, unless someone has a better measure of speed, I would almost recommend NOT upgrading - you slow your interface down! Just my experience. |
As per the Windows world, some of the newer drivers do indeed return much improved performance, but only on video cards with 128 megs of vram or greater.
There has been a lot of discussion about this on (non - linux) sites such as laptopvideo2go.com |
