new-ish window behavior

If i have many windows open (directories or whatever) and use the show desktop button (best button ever!) AND THEN I double click, say Home or another link to URL I have all the windows jump up in my face.

It used to be that I could just open the new window, but now they all "restore up" again.

Is there a setting for that?

On what? What dist? What window manager? What version? What when it used to be? What when new behaviour? What...? Anyhow, check that all is at latest upgrade level. Or consider changing your desktop-usage strategy?

Mandriva 10.2
KDE 3.4 (was 3.3, but the last update seems to have bumped that) - it happened in 3.3 and is still happening

Change my strategy? I just want to browse directories and surf and write code.

OK. Sorry, cannot help you, don't know Mandriva. About strategy, for example: You may use Konqueror bookmarks entirely thus avoiding linking from desktop icons...
