Networking stuffs

Hi people! I have just finished developing a php site, and it resides in a linux mandrake 9.1 machine.
Now, I would like to test it using my other computer (running win XP). I connect both computers using a crossover network cable (PC to PC connection). However, I'm not sure how to set the IP on Linux. In windows it would be under "Local Area Connection Properties" >> "TCP/IP" >> "Properties", but I'm not sure in Linux.

Is there any additional setting that I should make?

just go through the Mandrake Control Center, most things you expect from Control Panel are in there

Now I'm trying to access the php site (in linux box) from my IE browser (XP machine). I set the linux box into static IP (192.168.1.2), but I couldn't ping it from the XP.
Any idea?
