Network printer and router(D-link 704)

Hi!
I have a problem with installing my printer HP Deskjet 690C(old one I know) in my Linux "environment".

I have two machines, one with Linux and Win Xp(dual boot) and the other one only Win XP! My printer is in Windows a so called network printer, shared by both computers. And it's attached to the router(D-Link 704P).

But when i'm running Linux i don't know how to connect the "network printer"!! Anyone got any idea? Some tried this before?

I'm new to Linux, so I would realy appreciate any help in this question!!

/Thomas

I had the same setup until a couple of months back when I lost the router due to lightning.
You'll need to set it up as a lpr printer under CUPS - use the recommended driver. Some time spent in http://linuxprinting.org/ would be well worthwhile. Also as prior post, plenty of info on the web.
I had a lot of trouble getting Mepis to talk to it originally, but a later Mepis update fixed it all.

The HP inkjet printers will use the hpijs drivers. Also install the hplip package, or download it from the web. It will probably contain more up to date ppd files. Hplip is a sourceforge project. It stands for HP Linux Inkjet Printing.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/hpinkjet

You may need to uninstall your old hpijs driver before installing a new one. Sometimes a driver installed via a distro package will use a base address of /usr while a newer driver installed from source will use a base address of /usr/local.
