Network down at boot (10.2/LE 2005)

I recently upgraded from mdk 10.1 to LE 2005 (10.2). Ever since, when I boot the machine the network connection is down and I have to bring it up manually (in a rather odd fashion). The network icon in the system tray (if that's the correct term) has a red cross on it and I can't get any outside connection.

To get the network going I go to the Mandrake Control Center (drakconf) then 'Network & Internet' -> 'Set up new network', Select 'Cable connection' and 'Next', select "Authentication: none'. As soon as I hit 'Next' everything starts to work! The red cross disappears from the network icon and all is well. I then cancel the network connection setup.

Something must happen when I hit 'next' to start up the network?

The relevant lines from dmesg are below. The only error appears to be regarding IPv6 - could this be the culprit?

eth0: VIA Rhine II at 0x1ec00, 00:01:55:55:55:55, IRQ 11.
eth0: MII PHY found at address 1, status 0x786d advertising 05e1 Link 45e1.
eth0: link up, 100Mbps, full-duplex, lpa 0x45E1
eth0: no IPv6 routers present

Cheers,

Justin

possible, there is no ipv6 services yet, but I doubt it.

Check you services through drakconf and make sure network on boot is selected and dhcp client is selected.

Thanks for the thoughts Richard,

The network service is indeed set to start on boot. I use a static IP on my router so hopefully dhcp shouldn't be an issue.

I've tried looking through the code of drakconnect and all I can find is in /usr/lib/libDrakX/network/netconnect.pm near line 347:

if ($cable_no_auth->()) {
if (-f "$::prefix/etc/rc.d/init.d/bpalogin") {
require services;
services::stop("bpalogin");
services::do_not_start_service_on_boot("bpalogin");
}
}

However there is no bpalogin file on my system so the commands in the if-block won't run anyway...

Hmmmm
