I have installed 9.1, and used the configuration mgr to configure my network. I am connected to a syslink router (192.168.0.1) which in turn is connected to an ADSL modem. I have configured a static address of 192.168.0.3, but I cannot ping any machines on my subnet. I can loopback (127.0.0.0). What am I doing wrong, or what am I missing?
Thx for your reply, swiftnet. I'll give it a try. And pardon another newbies question.... I can't see the root profile (it only shows the profile I created during installation). Of course I can use the su command to obtain root authority in a terminal, but it would be nice to have the guy interface available... thx again
The Root account doesn't show as an icon, this is by design.
It is best to su into root as this will allow you to do what you must and get out. It is too easy to stay root because everything is available, but that is not the way in the *nix world ; )
I agree about the risks of the root login..... anyway, I added the changes you suggested but still no luck. When I try to add the default gw I receive a msg stating "...record already exists". BTW, I am using a BroadCom 4401 card and I have installed the latest driver.
