need wireless internet help mandrake 10 dell inspiron 510m intel wireless 2100 3A

Hi yall,
I have a dell inspiron 510m that dual boots between mandrake 10 and winxp pro. i like windows because things seem easy to set up but i wanna understand linux too. the problem is that i cannot for the life of me find an easy way to connect to a wireless network in linux! my wireless driver is an intel pro wiress 2100 3A. please help me figure out what to do to be able to use the internet with linux (i am able to connect to the internet in linux with a normal network cable, that is no problem).

i did one time connect to my school network through wireless but only on the command line, but now i can't get it to work on the command line. i really want to get it to work in a browser, i.e. firefox.

i have searched this site but can't find exactly what i'm looking for. lots of talk too about recompiling the kernel, etc. i can't imagine that it should be so arduous.

So if you searched the site you must have found all sorts of info and fully understand the terms "ndiswrapper" and "linuxant"

Also, if you've searched the site you must have sound several dozen references to hardware compatability lists, was your card on it?

Just checking to see how much you "seached the site"

Hi,

I have recently bought a DELL 510m.
Unfortunately, the on-board chipset for the wireless card is a Broadcom

Quote:
Identification
Vendeur: Broadcom Corp.
Description: BCM94306 802.11g NIC
For which not Linux compatible driver is available. A solution, as suggested herebefore, is to install ndiswrapper (for instance) and use the Windows drivers under Linux.
The only constraints are:
1) install the source code of your current kernel;
2) retrieve the source code of ndiswrapper (sourceforge.net)
3) compile this last code
and follow the installation guide.

After a few attempts, it should work ok.
Good luck,

Vincent

I've already answered this in the following thread.

The section on setting up WiFi applies to you...
