Question Need help with USB module for Sony Handycam

I am trying to connect a Sony Handycam Model DCR-HC40 into my computer via the USB connection. I am using Mandrake 10.0 Official and have the following modules listed according to lsmod: ehci-hcd, uhci-hcd, and usbcore. My PDA connects via USB. When I plug in the camera, /var/log/messages shows the following:

kernel: usb 3-2: new full speed USB device using address 2
usb.agent[3650]: ... no modules for USB product 54c/2e/500

So it appears that the system recognizes the device but there is no module. Using the Mandrake Control Center the camera will be listed under the hardware section.

Anyone know how to get the system to access the memory stick in the camera to get to the pictures?

Thanks

Unhappy Similar problem

Hi,

my new Handycam does same thing. Following clipped from log file:

kernel: usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using address 4
kernel: usb 1-2: device not accepting address 4, error -110
kernel: usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using address 5
kernel: usb 1-2: device not accepting address 5, error -110

After I tried to connect my camera to computer, it dropped internet and I needed to make hard boot. Can anyone say why is this so?

Unhappy have to compile kernel ?

Hello,

I read from somewhere that we need to compile kernel, and make some mods to USB drivers. Here is some hint for my model of handycam:

http://www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/lin...06.1/1144.html
http://lkml.org/lkml/2004/6/13/108

So, I think I need to learn to compile new kernel... has anyone good link to Simple guidelines for dummies?
