I just installed a fresh mandrake 10.1 on my HP pavilion ze4900 laptop and I have a PROBLEM
I knew that the broadkom w-lan modem is not supported natively on linux from the beginning, but hoped that I would be able to make it run with ndiswrapper.
I downloaded ndiswrapper 1.0 rpm for mdk and followed the installation manual fount on their wiki page. They suggested that I remove the existing ndiswrapper 0.8 installation first so I followed (deleted ndiswrapper directory from /lib/modules/2.6.8.1.-12mdk/kernel/3rdparty/ndiswrapper + depmod -a) then installed ndiswrapper from rpm and installed my winXP driver for my card. Now, however. when I type modprobe ndiswrapper it tells me:
Module ndiswrapper not found.
Now how do I make it see my fresh ndiswrapper installation?? (they sead nothing about this in wiki!!!!!!)
It's telling you it can't find the module. Not that it can't find the software. You screwed up making the ndiswrapper module with your driver or didn't get it installed permanently into the kernel.
Actually DO NOT remove the existing NDISWRAPPER RPM!
Mandrake 10.1 EXPECTS that particular version of NDISWRAPPER and if you upgrade it, you will find that you will get errors upon every attempt to load the newer version.
If you have already removed it, remove the updated version first then re-install via RPM.
If you upgrade to say the 2.6.10 kernel you may need the newer NDISWRAPPERS (.e.g if you use Thac's RPM's for instance...), but not before then.
