Mplayer won't work w/FF 1.0.6

So I had FF 1.02 installed and working fine with the mplayerplug-in. Thought I'd upgrade to 1.0.6. Now FF won't launch the mozilla-mplayer on ogg or asf sites. Plugin is in there. Mozilla 1.7.11 works fine. When I removed FF 1.0.2 and it took out the plugin with it. I tried to install the plugin w/o 1.0.2 but that won't work, both or none. So I reinstalled 1.0.2, deleted 1.06, and tried to get back to where I was. Now 1.0.2 is doing what 1.0.6 is doing. Just get the download box. In preferences asf is set-up to use mplayerplug-in as it's supposed to do. Help!!!
The mplayerplugins I'm using are rpms, mplayerplugin 3.00. I tried to compile 3.05 but it complained about no "gecko sdk". I notice there's no netscape directory in /usr/lib, is that the way Mandriva 2005 is packaged?

What I did to get it to work was to delete 1.0.2 and let it take the plugin with it. I don't know how, but somehow the plugin stayed with 1.0.6 and 1.7.11. I was trying to keep 1.0.2 in there so as to keep the plugin. When I would attempt to remove 1.0.2 it said it had to take the plugin. And when I tried to install the plugin alone it said it had to install 1.0.2. I "m sure someone understands this process, but as long as it works, trial and error is ok with me!

The Firefox '1.0.2' in Mandriva has all the bug and security fixes from 1.0.6 backported into it so there's really no need to upgrade to 1.0.6 in the first place.

AFAICT most plugins for Firefox live in the /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/ directory or are symlinked into there. Plugins in the directory should be picked up by Mozilla, firefox and konqueror.
