Mozilla firefox
Hi
My KDE system has Firefox version 1.0.2 installed Have Mozilla firefox 1.0.4 unziped on Desktop Do I remove version 1.0.2 before I can install version 1.0.4? Have run the Firefox installer script, but Version 1.0.2 is still default program. need the new firefox icon on taskbar to boot Firefox 1.0.4 Any help with this installation Maurice |
Well you can run both versions if you want to. The only problem is that this might corrupt your profile.
If you want the taskbar icon to change, just edit it to point to wherever you installed 1.0.4. |
You should probably just get your mandriva updates as this will include a firefox update giving you the latest version. You don't need to download the latest from firefox.

You would rather have installed Firefox using a rpm Package. RPM packages allow updates.
You simply download the latest firefox rpm and then type on the console: "rpm -Uvh <package name>" The "-U" means Update If a older package exists it will be replaced without problems. |

Hi
Thanks for reply fellows appreciate your help Maurice |
The information on the RPM update was really good. Thank you.
I just wanted to know how can you update applications without rpms like tar files. I'm very new to Linux, I've just installed Ubuntu on my Laptop and have no idea where to start. |
