Mouse Problem with X

I have encountered a sudden problem with X recently. Frequently, something happens to X where the mouse no longer works (keyboard is still fine). The only way I have come up with so far to fix it is to ssh into the box and kill the 'X' process as root. Has anyone else encountered this and/or have a suggestion as to how I might resolve it? Thanks.

Hya,

A little bit more information may be helpful.

1. Did you do anything?
2. Is mouse attached via USB?
3. Is keyboard attached via USB?
4. What kind of hardware?
5. Make sure there is no cat around!

Happy Penguins!

No. Just normal day to day usage, then it started.

AMD 2.1GHz, 2.5GB memory. It been running fine for more then a year. I should add that I have this on a KVM switch and the mouse works fine on the other system so it cannot be the mouse per se.

Hi!

I have a kvm switch too.

Can you change the rate for the mouse within the kvm switch?

If so you may be able to put it on auto, and that may fix it.

The other thing is, can you be sure that both systems are syncing to the mouse at the same frequency?

You may find that X11 is a bit flaky, have you upgraded lately?

See how you go, regards, Glenn.

Thanks for the reply. My KVM switch is not that fancy. Its a hard wired A-B switch. I have a new solid state switch on order. If the switch is the problem, or contributing to it, maybe that will clear it up.
