More zip drive woes 9.2

With help from some people here, I was able to get my internal ide zip 100 drive woring in mandrake 9.2.

However, now it's misbehaving. Using a zip that I fomatted on this same machine (ext2), which used to work fine, it hangs when I try to ls. Here is my fstab entry:

none /mnt/zip supermount dev=/dev/hdc4,fs=ext2:vfat,--,codepage=850,kudzu,sync,iocharset=iso8859-1 0 0

And here is me trying to ls after I put the disk in:

ls /mnt/zip

(I can still type text after this, but it never recovers to the command prompt).

How do I fix this (and by the way, how do I cancel out when trying to ls? I tried control-C but it doesn't do anything, I can't get back to the command prompt. I can open another ssh session but I would think there's a way to kill the ls process that's hanging.)
