Do you have ACPI enabled at boot? Open up Mandriva Control Centre (the blue & white monitor icon on the top panel, or type mcc in terminal - you'll be asked for root password either way) then go to Boot options. Click on Set up how the system boots, & if not already done, click in the box next to Enable ACPI. Reboot if this box was not already ticked. Then, in Gnome at least, go to System -> Preferences. There should now be a Power Management option - click on that & slide the pointer to Never in the option to Put display to sleep. Voila! No more blanking screen! The Screensaver option in Gnome System Preferences also links to Power Management
