Missing menus when installing programs, Nvidea Drivers & Sound Issues

well i decide to come back to mandrake and stay with it this time i like all the stuff thats included with it and wanted a windows like os. but still multibooting.
I remember hearing something about getting the menus back after its gone missing, how do i do so? I'm about to install programs off the cd and would like to be ready when it happens.
And is there a rpm release of the nvidia drivers for MDK 9.2? only rpm im willing to give a try.

--and i have problems with sound. i hear static when im listening to music. how do i fix this thing? im using Avance Sound Card.

update-menus -v and download the last updates. This problem is a known bug.

I ran the updates and it fixed the menu issue for me as well.
As for the Nvidia driver. Its for Linux period. I used it on Redhat, Fedora and now MDK9.2. You know it works if you see the Nvidia splash screen when it boots.

good luck

the menu issue is fix here too. the nvidia driver i found it and the instructions on there site but no rpm. just .run, which i'll may try sometime. the sound issue was with xmms. don't know why but mplayer and another worked fine.

The sound driver is a snap to install. follow these steps.

In console, type

su root <enter>
(enter your password)<enter>
vi /etc/inittab

When it opens look for the line that says init:5:initdefault

tab over to the 5, hit "i" and then replace the 5 with a 3 (the i makes it where you can type in the editor)
hit escape
type ":"
type wq <enter>

reboot the computer and wait for the console login
login as root

type cd /(folder with nvidia driver you downloaded, mine was in /etc/home/myname)
hit enter
type sh (name of nvidia.run file you downloaded)

after it runs and successfully installs,

type vi /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 (if that doesnt work get rid of the -4 and try again)
When it opens go to the device area and look for the Driver "nv"
type "i"
replace the nv with the word nvidia
hit escape
type ":"
type "wq"
hit enter

now type vi /etc/inittab
change the 3 back to a 5
hit escape
type ":"
Type "wq"
hit enter

now reboot and when X starts you should see the NVIDIA splash screen.
