.MID file problem

I am not understanding this at all!,
The Amarok media player seems to by default be set to play .MID files, yet everyone I try to play - just won't! I don't think there is anything wrong with the .MID files themselves because I put them on a temp FTP server to let my broth-in-law download the exact files I had directly from my machine, and they played fine for him (he is running Windows XP with Windows Media Player 10).
I also have a problem with web sites that use .MID files for background music.
Any clue what is going on?

I was just as confused by this initially too. Linux does not handle midi as easily as windows does. You can't just open them in any old media player without making sure it has support for midi. I have no idea how to make the browser play them.

Maybe this isn't the answer you were looking for, but whenever I need to listen to a midi I just open it in rosegarden.
