me and my eternal problem with ati

Hi again, i'm back with this all known thread about ati drivers... Here is when i do glxinfo | grep rendering:

[root@localhost X11]# glxinfo | grep rendering
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":93.0".
direct rendering: No

what should i do to get the Xfree86-driv on the display? How can i get to enable the rendering?

Cheers

I think that the real answer it to get an Nvidia card and use their driver. Forget about ATI on Linux. I have one computer with an ATI Radeon 8500. Even with the latest ATI drivers I get the same reading that you get: no direct rendering. I think it's time that we all switch to Nvidia. I have several computers that have Nvidia cards and are running Linux. Nvidia does a better job of working with the Linux platform.

stress junkie is right. the nvidia linux drivers are the ducks guts.

nvidia only in linux, blasts ati of the map.

regards shorty943.

edit: No, it is not too late. Rip it out and trade it. I use an FX5500, an oldie, but under Linux, old gold.
Remember, bleeding edge, is for those with more dollars than sense.
