MDK official vs community
what is the difference?
|
If you mean the difference between the free download versions of community and official then the answer is less bugs.
If you mean the difference between a bought Official and the free community then the difference is proprietry drivers and extra software such as RealPlayer, FlashPlayer, Acrobat reader etc. |
ok well im waiting for the official version public iso comes out. or has it already come out? does anyone know where you can download it?
|
check out this thread.
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=177777 official is essentially community with all the updates. you just wont get any of the proprietary drivers and such this way, but if you need those, you can still buy it. (urpmi.org seems to be down right now). but you need to set up official sources for updates. |
ok so the Official verson is the updated and probably the "bugg free" verson of community if you dont by it.
but the main difrence betwen the official verson you buy and the one you download is some software and drivers. so here is my question: could you get the drivers and the other stuff installed manualy on the free verson. so that it would be almost the same as the one you buy? btw im running mdk 10 community. and i cant fin a controll panel for my ATI R9800. you know, where i can turn on and off the AA and the FA thanks |
How about CE with the latest updates? Is it still more buggy than the Official version?

yes is the short answer though I'm not sure about the ATI drivers (cus I use an Nvidia card) but more or less everything else is available as rpm's and can be found on various sites on the net the main advantage to the Official version is you have all the dependencies for each package present on the cd's |
salparadise,
where do you go about buying the Official version...I have the community version and have had problems with my Sound Blaster Live card and have basically given up on Mandy for now but if buying official version will help to correct my problem, I am all for buying it....and believe me when I say, I have been through EVERYTHING. |
probably on amazon
or direct from mandrake (prices in Euro's) http://www.xe.com (universal currency converter) to work out what that is in your own currency |
I went searching and amazon.com doesn't have it and Mandrakestore.com shows prices in US Dollars and it certainly is not inexpensive but a bit better than MS Windoze....
|
I don't have money to spend like that....this is why I am trying to get away from Windows....but in my thread in this forum "Mandrake Distro", I have such a problem with my sound card that I am giving up for now...but thanks for the info. I will look into that later.

DaveThePuzzled, mandrake is not the only distro available on this planet, if u are not satisfied with mandrake, try something else like may be slackware, suse, debian, gentoo
