MD5 Checksum
 

Hello friends,

I'm not a new Linux user, but, am new to burning CDs. I recently installed a burner on my Windows XP Pro box, SP2. My burning software is Nero.
I've successfully burned a Knoppix 3.7 CD, but, lately I've been burning coasters, I think.
I've downloaded the ISOs for Mandriva 2005 and have not been able to install from them. The best I get is that the 1st install CD boots, loads the program into memory, then I can partition the drive, but, can't install (can't find kernel).
So I'm not sure if the 1st CD is corrupt or perhaps my old Dell Plll doesn't support Mandriva 2005.
I'm running Mandrake 10.1 on this Dell now with no problems.
Anyway I've got the ISOs on my windows box. Is there a way I can easily check if the ISOs are okay before I burn them? A step by step guide would be very much appreciated.

I ran the program and received interesting results. All of the md5 check sums are fine on the 3 Linux ISOs. I'm assuming this means one of two things.
1. Something is going wrong in the burn process and the pristine ISO is being altered by the burn process.
2. My Plll Dell Optiplex can't run Mandriva 2005.

I wonder what it means if the first install CD can boot, the program loads, I can partition my drive, but, I can't install the programs.
Any ideas, folks? I appreciate the swift reply to my question. I've been looking for a simple checksum utility and the one you provided is excellent, many thanks, man!

Small question.
After you burn the CD does the md5 number change from the number on the software ISO that you download? That is, I noticed that the software ISO had the same number as the md5sum number on the Internet.
But, after I burned the CD the number changed.
Is that normal or is that a bad burn?

It was my first CD that was corrupt. I'm installing Mandriva 2005 now, my first install CD booted fine, working.
