Mandy 10.1 RC1 boot failure

I've been trying to get MDK 10.1 RC1 up'n'running for the past few hours with no success. After it has completed install I tried booting the system, but the system resets just after the kernel loads. No output, nothing, simply reset. i don't need a kernel to do that... I have the reset button handy

I tried using the kernels off the 10.0OE distro that I still have on my computer, but when it tries to mount the root filesystem it says there's an error (something about the partition not being ext3). Well, it isn't, it is reiser, so no mounting, no initrd, >> BOOM << Kernel panic, no init found.

Can I pass an option to the kernel on the command line to get it to load the resiserfs.ko.gz instead of ext3.ko.gz? Or any other trick to get it up and running?

same problem

I have the same problem.

10.1 RC1 starts but then sends all the term signal and shuts down.

What gives?

Help? Anyone? If this is a mdk kernel bug (the reset on boot) and gets into MDK 10.1 Community/Official, I'm not going to be very happy. It takes me a couple of hours to get a kernel built, and I'd simply hate it to build it, then realise I have to reinstall (

(I've solved the reiserfs booting problem (initrd had to be rebuilt).)

Got 10.1 working.

1. Downloaded disk 1 from a different site.

2. Made a boot floppy (again).

3. Loaded from floppy from within lilo.

4. CD was in the drive, install went well.

I was nervous to upgrade my fully working 9.1 setup to 10.1. Some sort of system mess up (files?, hey I'm still green at this sort of stuff) pushed me to the darkside.
10.1 is now up and running rather well, except for not powering down properly.

I have 10.1 running on 3 different machines. At this point one machine I can't get the Nvidia driver to load at all. The other 2 are running just fine.

@courtrrb: here's a topic for getting the NVIDIA drivers to compile on 2.6.8.1-5 and later kernels. It's HERE

As for the kernel crashing instantly on boot, I dunno, must be hardware-related, as mine is quite old (VIA MVP3, AMD K6-III @ 500)

Of the 3 that I own 2 have the Nvidia kernel and I followed the instructions from Mandrake which are differnt from this one. It worked on 1 of the two machines. Both compiled just fine it just wouldn't start the graphics at all. So I'll try this one when I get home tonight.
