My best "guess" is if you have a LCD monitor on your newer machine it
is getting driven beyond it specs..Try putting your older monitor on your newer machine just to get the GUI installed then edit your xorg config file so that it represents the LCD specs..Look closely at the horizontal frequency and the vertical refresh rate in Xorg and make sure that it is like the LCD monitor specs..Then switch back to the LCD monitor and see if it will boot..
