Mandriva Powerpack 2007 hangs on Matrox P650 graphics card - no way to startx
I have a Matrox P650 AGP graphics card and a 17" LCD PnP monitor. The installation program doesn't recognize the P650. I have tested all VESA modes, and only the 1024x768 modes are tested correctly (vesa 1280x1024 does not work). So I have selected 1024x768x24 (also with 16-bit color; the problem is just the same). With this video mode, the installation terminated without problems.
However, when I reboot in Linux, the system always hangs: It seems that a number of video modes are being tested and tested in an endless chain... The only way I have to start Mandriva is in failsafe mode. When I startx in failsafe mode, KDE starts in 1024x768x24.
My previous Mandrake Powerpack 9.2 installation works without flaws on the same system with the vesa driver and resolutions up to 1600x1200x24. This is why I assumed that at least I could get the same with Mandriva 2007.
I have downloaded the Matrox P650 driver for Linux (from Matrox website). When I try to install it, it says that the version of XWindows is not supported...
What can I do? I am completely stuck. I'd be reasonably happy if at least I could start up in 1280x1024x24 vesa mode, as with my old Mandrake 9.2... Obviously, I'd like to work with my P650 in dual-head mode.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Juan Conejero
