Mandriva LE PPC on G5

Has anyone tried to install Mandriva LE PPC on a G5? I have a G5 with dual PPC 970 processors. Its not even letting me install it. I am able to install Yellow dog but i'm having issues with samba with that. I prefer to user the Mandriva distro. If anyone has any ideas that would be great.

When you say "it's not even letting me install it" - why is it? What errors do you get? How are you trying to install it?

If you can be as specific as possible then maybe someone can help you. The more information, the better!

I am trying to install it from CD. I used the same exact CDs on a G4 that worked fine so i know its not the CDs. Basically when i get to the boot prompt where it wants you to type install-gui i type that (ive also tried the install-gui-power4 and some of the others) it starts loading and then when it says loading CPU's /PowerPC 7 ....failed
it locks up at that point and all i can do is power off.

It definitely sounds like a problem with the distro.

I have absolutely no knowledge of PPC and Linux, so I'm not sure if there are work arounds you can try, but googling may help you with this. (Sorry - I hate having to say that, but I really am at a loos with your problem Obviously I'm not the only person on this forum though!).

Just a thought - are there any options that you need to add to the boot command to include support for dual CPU's?

Have you tried/considered Mandriva 2006 when it comes out? It may resolve the problem. And obviously you can go back to using Yellow Dog, but that avoids the issue. Although solving a samba problem may be easier for you in the long term?

For the time being i exported an NFS mount on my OSX server and i am able to mount that in Yellow dog. I will for sure try Mandriva 2006 when its out. I hope it works so for now i am stuck with yellow dog wich is okay there is just a few things with mandriva that i like better. I did google the heck out of the mandriva and the samba thing to no avail. Thank you for your post though.
