Mandriva LE 2005/Win XP dual boot problems
First off i'm running: AMD 64 3400+ Processor
1GB RAM(no idea what type) Radeon X800 XT Graphics card 1X Maxtor 6Y120P0 (120Gb, IDE set as Primary Master) 2X Promise Hard Drives (150Gb each in a RAID array) 2x TSSTcorp DVD Drives (one of which is a burner) I already have a working copy of Win XP on my IDE drive. No problems there at all. My 1st RAID drive is formatted with NTFS so windows can use that fine. I then went on to try and install Mandriva LE 2005 onto my 2nd RAID drive (Linux calls it sdb), install went perfect, I installed a LILO bootloader onto my IDE drive to get a dual boot however on restart the boot loader fail and just displayed a bunch of 9s over half my screen so I had to reboot, same thing happens every time. I ran Windows fixmbr and i'm now in the same situation as before i installed Linux but with a HD with a working version of Linux on it that i can't use. I've tryed reinstalling it several time and with different settings but nothing will prompt it to work. I know my CDs work because somehow in the past i have somehow got it to work on this same system, however i have no idea how. I think i installed windows after but I have no intention of reinstalling Windows this time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if i've not been descriptive enough but if you need more info i'm sure i can find it out. |
You know I've had that happen to me as well, and one thing I did find was this:
http://www.highlandsun.com/hyc/linuxboot.html It helped out when I needed to dual-boot Windows XP and Mandriva, but I didn't have it set up as RAID either, so don't know if it will help too much. |
Sorry dude, i tried your way but it didn't work, i think the problem is something to do with the boot-procedure not liking RAID or something, thanks for trying though.

Use GRUB. You can install it by going to the Mandriva Control Center under "Boot" options. LILO's less versatile, and it might be having trouble because Mandriva is on a different disk than the bootloader.

But that's his problem. He can't boot into Mandriva to get to the control center. I know there's a way to boot from a live CD distro, but i'm not sure what it is because I've never had to do it yet.
