Mandriva cd/dvd drive is very hot

I am not sure what the problem is here. I just installed Mandriva Spring 2008 and I noticed during the install the cd was very, very hot when I took it out. I know it is not the cd/dvd drive itself and I know this can't be good. It is not hot in XP, Ubuntu, Suse, etc. It is just the normal temprature. I am worried that this is going to mess up my cd/dvd drive.

It is a USB cd/dvd read, write, rewrite, maybe it is just a problem with those? Anyone have any ideas?

(I should have added this. I installed a few things from that drive and playing movies it is the same. Not just with the install itself.)

tried burning it again? Or downloading another copy? Possibly the cd itself is bad or the image. Because I have run into some bad cd images that even check right but are still messed up.

Hello,
I think most cd's get warm,i know mine does..Hot is another thing again..
Is it because your case temperature is higher than normal?..I know when my CPU is involved in intensive work it becomes hotter and then raises the internal case temperature..This is just another thought that you should look at and consider..
Goodluck,

The practical solution is to use a distribution that doesn't cause this problem. Why chase down some obscure hardware driver issue in Mandriva when Ubuntu works fine?

I wanted to thank everyone for the replies. I have been busy offline, so I have not been able to reply.

I decided to drop Mandriva. I am trying things differently once I finish downloading 3 dvd's and 1 cd. (Even with cable those dvd's are taking about 45 minutes each. I remember the good old days when I downloaded a 5mb file and it took 20 minutes with dial up, so I can't complain about the dvd's, LOL.)

Vista
XP
Blag 9000
Debian
